Operating the CryptoMail Email System is as simple as running your other desktop Email applications and administrating your UNIX accounts. For the users or administrators of the CryptoMail Email System, you will start to learn using the Email system in this section. With just few more steps, you will able use the Email system to send and receive your secure Email.

Sign Up
After you have installed the Email system, you should create a new Email account. Creating a new account entails creating a 1024 bit ElGamal Public/Private Key Pair and choosing a passphrase. Users should pay extra attention to choosing a passphrase, since nobody can access some of the contents of the account without the passphrase: even the system administrator!
- Open up your favorite web browser (e.g. Netscape or Internet Exporter) and go to http://<host_name>/CryptoMail/NewCryptoMailAccount.html
- Pick and enter a user name for your Email account
- Create a Public/Private Key Pair by moving your mouse pointer within the Java Applet
- Pick and enter a passphrase for your Email account
Login
After you have created a new Email account, you can log in to your Email account. Logging in involves providing a correct user name and passphrase to your Email account. Upon successful login, you will able to read, send and manage your Email messages. For information/help on using the CryptoMail Client, you can get it from the interactive help by pressing the Help icon on the client or Users Manual.
- Go to http://<host_name>/CryptoMail/Login.html
- Enter your user name of your Email account
- Enter your passphrase of your Email account
Logout
When you finish your Emailing, you should log out from your Email account. If you have more than one session of the Email clients, you should log out from each session. Logging out is not a necessary step of the Email system, but this step can ensure the termination of the session.
