CryptoMail.org publishes the CryptoMail News-letter to provide information about secure web based email communication.
LayerOne 2005
CryptoMail.org was invited to speak at the second year of the LayerOne technical conference at Pasadena, a city with distinctive neighborhoods, historic buildings and a vibrant cultural scene.
Like last the last year, CryptoMail.org was the first group to speak in the conference. Our topic was "How to be a good cryptoanarchist: Installing a secure webmail server". Joshua gave an overview on the underlying mechanism and infrastructure of the CryptoMail Email System. Next, for the first time, he showed a live demo on installing the email system in his lap-top computer running OpenBSD. The demo went off without any hitch, and it left us with significant time to answer questions from the attendees.
In conclusion, the 2005 LayerOne conference was by far the most successfully hosted LayerOne conference. The number of attendees and quality of speakers surpassed that of the previous year, and we are looking forward to present our new development efforts at LayerOne 2006. Here, we would like to thank Noid, M and all LayerOne’s staffs for inviting and accepting our presentation.
Windows XP Service Pack 2
In the last CryptoMail Newsletter, we talked about firewall applications in a client machine in conjunction with running the CryptoMail Service’s Java Applet client. However, in the past few months, we still receive reports of problems in running the Java Applet client.
To clear up major concerns about your firewall, especially the Windows Firewall in the Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), we have tested and verified it on IE, Netscape and FireFox with Java JVM 1.5 (JRE 5). We concluded that the firewall and SP2 will not interfere the CryptoMail Service. If you have the Windows firewall enabled in the Windows XP SP2, you should not have any problem with logging in, changing pass phrase and signing up for the CryptoMail Service.
For people using another brand of firewall and are still having problems, we recommend that you temporarily disable the firewall and try to use our CryptoMail Service while the firewall is disabled.
New! Bulletin Board
During the past few months, we enhanced our Forum section in the website, so our users and supporters can easily communicate with us and other CryptoMail users. CryptoMail.org now provides an electronic bulletin board as a part of our commitment to serve the Internet community!
We divided the bulletin board into four key catalogs for technical support, organization discussions, service information, and system development exchanges. We also opened off-topic discussions to allow topics other than secure web based email, CryptoMail, to make the bulletin board more fun and interesting. We anticipate fulfilling most of the communications with our community in the bulletin board.
The core purpose of the bulletin board is to provide better technical supports to users, system administrators and developers, such that technical questions and answers can be viewed or answered by everyone. People who are too afraid to ask questions might be able to find their answers in the bulletin board anonymously. Moreover, we can answer the most commonly asked questions in an effective fashion without having to respond to them individually by email. By off-loading our responses to each of the individual question, we will be able to reply and investigate each of the problems in a shorter time frame, at once for everyone.
Furthermore, we setup the bulletin board to allow open and unrestricted discussions on wide variety of topics. We will not censor any post to allow free speech and to obtain impartial comments form you. Unfortunately, by doing so, we need to limit the bulletin board access to adults only.
CryptoMail.org encourages anyone who has any question or suggestion to post in our bulletin board. People from CryptoMail.org will respond to your posts immediately and try our best to ensure to operate a friendly bulletin board without offending anyone.
The CryptoMail Newsletter is published 3 times in a year by our members. Submissions are welcome, and you can send your submissions to our editorial director 2 weeks before our deadline for the preceding publication.
