4. Installing CryptoMail Email System

4.1 What should I do before installing the CryptoMail Email System?

Before you start to install the CryptoMail Email System into your server, you should check all system requirements of the email system. Next you just follow the instructions in the Client/Server Manual. If you haven't installed and configured the supporting severs (e.g. httpd, MySQL and sendmail), you must setup those supporting servers before installing the email system.

4.2 How do I install the binary of the CryptoMail Email System?

You can install the binary of the CryptoMail Email System by unpack the binary packet (tar -xvf cryptomail-0.90-linux.tar) in any directory that you have permission to execute CGI. You don't have to have administrator privileges to install your email mail system.

4.3 How do I compile the source code of the CryptoMail Email System?

If you decide to compile the source code of the CryptoMail Email System, you should read the readme.txt inside the source code directory. Also you should check your Java and GNU C/C++ compiler version. By simply type "make all" at the command prompt, you should be able to compile the source code.

You do not compile the client and server source codes together, since the client is written in Java and the server is written in C. For the client, you can compile the source codes at any machine with Java compiler. For the server, you should compile the source codes in the machine that you intend to host the email system.

If you want to make the Java applet client to your customized webpage, you will need make change of the HTML template (for more information, please see the Client/Server Manual).

4.6 How do I check the installation of the CryptoMail Email System?

The best way to check for installation is by creating a dummy email account and sending an email message to the dummy account. If you want to use the CryptoMail Email System for Internet Email, you should send an email message to an Internet account.

4.7 Can I reinstall the CryptoMail Email System?

Yes, you can reinstall the CryptoMail Email System including the client and server without loss of user accounts and email messages in the database.
